Singapore Airlines unveils new Changi lounge plans

The national carrier will make T5 its new home.

Singapore Airlines has announced its plan to call the new Changi Airport Terminal 5 home when it opens in the mid-2030s. The Changi Airport Group has confirmed that the Singapore Airlines Group will consolidate its operators under a single roof at T5.

T5 will be located to the east of the current two runways and four terminals and is expected to house over 100 departure gates. This will boost annual passenger capacity from 90 million to 140 million, many of which will be flying on Singapore Airlines and its low-cost carrier Scoot.

The new mega-terminal is set to be inspired by the Singaporean blend of city and nature, with design concepts featuring curved roofs and the creation of quasi-neighborhoods to break up the enormity of the airport.

T5 will be divided into three terminals itself – T5A, T5B and T5C – with its own dedicated people mover system to move passengers within the terminal plus a Skytrain link to Terminal 2. An MRT station is expected to be set up at T5 for the new Cross Island Line and an extension to the Thomson-East Coast Line in 2040 will provide a direct connection to the city with stations at T2 and T3, making it easier for passengers to get to their Singapore destination.
