Qantas is set to welcome its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft in September, debuting on key domestic routes between Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth before expanding to short- and medium-haul international services.
By mid-2026, seven A321XLRs will be in service, with 41 more on order. The new fleet brings significant upgrades designed to enhance both business and leisure travel. For corporates, the highlights are clear: lie-flat business class seats on select aircraft, larger overhead bins, extra legroom in economy, and fast Wi-Fi throughout the cabin.
The aircraft also offer a 66% increase in business class capacity compared with the Boeing 737, reflecting Qantas’ confidence in premium travel demand. From 2026, some XLRs will feature seatback video screens across all cabins, while others will prioritise personal device streaming.
Beyond domestic use, the XLR will unlock new regional opportunities. Planned routes include Adelaide–Singapore and Perth–India, alongside increased frequencies to Southeast Asia. As CEO Vanessa Hudson notes, the aircraft will strengthen Qantas’ core business travel markets while opening doors to new destinations.
For business travellers, the A321XLR represents greater comfort, connectivity, and flexibility, key benefits for corporate programs looking to optimise traveller experience.
