Behind the Gates: Goldman Travel’s Exclusive Tour of Western Sydney International Airport

Australia is about to get its first major new airport in more than 50 years, and Goldman Travel’s clients were among the first to see it from the inside.

Last month, Goldman Travel Group hosted 27 clients on an exclusive pre-opening tour of Western Sydney International Airport at Badgerys Creek, giving guests a first look at the facility before the public does. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Guests were struck by the scale and design of the new terminal, with several remarking that it will genuinely change the way Sydney flies. Others described the visit as a rare and special opportunity, walking through a brand-new international airport before a single flight has taken off from it is not an experience many people will ever have.

The significance of WSI is hard to overstate. Sydney’s existing Kingsford Smith Airport operates under two structural constraints that cap its growth permanently: an overnight curfew under the Sydney Airport Curfew Act 1995, and strict runway slot limits that prevent airlines from simply adding services as demand grows. WSI removes both. Operating around the clock without curfew restrictions, the airport opens scheduling possibilities that simply haven’t existed in Sydney before.

For corporate travellers, this matters in practical terms. Singapore Airlines will launch daily Airbus A350-900 services from WSI to Singapore from 23 November, departing at 23:55 and arriving into Changi at 05:05 the following morning. Emirates and Qatar Airways have also confirmed services following a government decision to designate WSI as a separately designated international gateway with its own capacity allocations, independent of Kingsford Smith. For organisations with teams travelling regularly through Gulf hubs or into Asia, the new routing options are significant.

The airport features a single integrated terminal serving both domestic and international travellers, a 3.7-kilometre runway, and has been designed to serve up to 10 million passengers annually in its initial stage, with capacity for significant expansion.

Goldman Travel was proud to offer this level of access to our clients ahead of the public opening. It is the kind of experience that sets a great trip apart before it even begins, and we are already looking forward to arranging similar behind-the-scenes moments in future. Being inside WSI before its doors open to the world reflects what we do — staying ahead of the changes that shape how our clients move, so we can advise with confidence when it counts.

WSI Airport opens 25 October 2026. Speak to your Goldman Travel account manager about flight options from the new airport.
