On Monday morning, 26 October 2026, Goldman Travel’s General Manager, Chris Cheyne, took off on the first international flight out of Western Sydney International Airport. The service was operated by Air New Zealand and flew to Auckland. Chris reports a smooth experience in the new terminal, from arrival to takeoff.
A significant addition to the network
The flight carried added weight because Western Sydney International is the first major new airport to open in Australia in decades. An airport of that scale adds capacity to the national aviation network and gives the country another gateway for international travel. Before opening, Goldman Travel had the privilege to take a group of clients on an inspection while the airport was still in its testing phase, so experiencing the first departure was a natural next step for the team.
What it means for corporate travellers
An airport matters most to the people who use it, and for corporate travellers based in Sydney’s West and beyond the benefits are practical. Less time is spent getting to the airport, and international connections are available closer to home. A shorter trip to the terminal also means a more direct path from the office or home to the first leg of a journey.
Those benefits grow as airlines add services. Travellers will soon have direct flights to destinations across Asia and the Pacific, as well as the Middle East. The airlines serving these routes will include Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways, VietJet Air, Qantas, Jetstar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways. The route network is still developing, so the options available will continue to change as carriers confirm their plans. Each new service adds another choice when planning travel to and from Sydney.
Supporting clients as the network grows
With the network still taking shape, Goldman Travel is looking forward to seeing it grow and to supporting its clients as it does. Account managers can talk through what Western Sydney International could mean for a client’s team and travel program.
As more airlines begin operating from the airport, Goldman Travel will share updates through our Gold Intelligence newsletter so that clients have current information when they plan their next trip. Chris’s first flight is an early marker in what the team expects to be a long run of new routes from Sydney’s West.
