ROOM STYLE: contemporary urban chic interiors
I LOVE: the room features and amenities. The technology is top of the range and no stone was left unturned when it came to detail – from the bedding, to the room fixtures and layout.
Hong Kong is a city I often visit for business, but it is also up there in my top five cities for a holiday. There is something to take in on every corner – from experiencing the hustle and bustle of the city centre, taking your tastebuds on a journey for local and international culinary delights, to taking in a city pulsating with culture.
In a recent visit I stayed at The Murray hotel, located on Cotton Tree Drive, in the heart of Hong Kong. It is the city’s newest, luxury iconic landmark hotel, catering to savvy business travellers, industry leaders and style and global entrepreneurs. I break down my highlights during my stay below.
In true Niccolo Hotel hospitality, the service commences the minute you arrive. Welcomed by the warm concierge team, the check in was seamless and speedy.
I’m greeted with the view of Hong Kong Botanical Gardens and the city skyline through The Murray’s signature suite windows. Located on the 23rd floor, the Cotton Tree Suite is a 100 square metre sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city below. Before I succumb to a 1000 luxurious linen thread count slumber, I order some dinner from the 24-hr in-room dining menu, a saviour for corporate travellers on the go or checking in from a red eye.
To curb the jetlag, I took a dip in The Murray’s swimming pool. Surrounded by lush greenery, the indoor pool serves as the perfect place to unwind. In addition to this, The Murray offers a programme of fitness classes such as boot camp, hikes through Hong Kong’s nature trails, personal training, Tai Chi and yoga classes. The gym is available 24 hours and equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment.
Guests can also take some well-deserved “me time” at Wellness at The Murray. The spa offers a range of treatments to restore one’s health and vitality. Services include a personal wellness and nutritional consultation to ascertain how The Murray can tailor your current stay or future stays to meet your personal wellness goals – talk about personalised service! Tailored dining experiences curated by a certified nutritionist and culinary team are also available, great for those with strict dietary requirements.
The Niccolo Room on the 25th floor is hailed as one of the city’s most desirable event spaces for conferences with a capacity to seat 240 guests or receptions for up to 350. Additionally, there are seven smaller boardrooms all featuring natural light.
The Murray features five elegant dining destinations including Popinjays, a rooftop restaurant and bar with panoramic views; Guo Fu Lou, the ultimate destination for Cantonese cuisine; The Tai Pan, modern-European and international cuisine within a sophisticated setting; Garden Lounge hosts The Murray’s signature afternoon tea; and Murray Lane, an exceptional bar experience.
My top pick is Popinjays, the perfect spot for a nightcap. I enjoyed the Instagram-worthy views while sipping on world-class cocktails and specialty spirits. Reflective of Hong Kong’s vibrant cosmopolitan style, Popinjays attracts a range of stylish guests, from corporates to the fashion crowd. The bar bites menu is paired in unison to the drinks list, however, if you’re after something more substantial, modern European is on the menu, as well as a degustation menu that changes weekly.
